This was a quick read and it provided an insight that I did not expect. I have read all kinds of books about people’s lives starting in middle school. But I have never heard someone say that after a health scare they should work harder when they already were a high achiever. Most people say they need to spend more time with their family and slow down. Chris said he needed to spend more time with his family, but he had no intention of slowing down at work. Because now he knew for sure that tomorrow was not promised and certain 3 years from tomorrow is not promised.
The book is well written and the humor is great. I really did not have any expectations of this book, other than wanting to know what he learned from almost dying. I was impressed with his answer. Most people would never admit to wanting to focus on accomplishments more after a health scare. Achievement is a great feeling. I was impressed with his honesty. Why give up something that makes you happy? And why give up striving for more?
Learning to balance it all and be fully in the moment seemed to be his answer and insight. Do what makes you happy. Focus on being in the moment and being peaceful. When you find out what makes you happy and make peace with your priorities, things fall into place. Because you are doing what makes you happy.
I suppose do what makes you happy is also the message. I like that message too. Great quick read.
