Quantum Healing by Deepak Chopra, M.D. —Book Review

I loved this book! It was written in the late 1980s. It is amazing how much we knew in the 1980s that the mainstream media did not tell us about. Epigenetics were discovered in the 1980s, too.

In the book, Quantum Healing by Deepak Chopra, M.D. he focuses on cancer remissions and unexplained recoveries. People heal themselves, we just have not developed a crystal clear step by step guide of this that is a one size fits all. There are countless books you can read nowadays that will literally tell you how to heal yourself.

This book talks about people with unexplained recoveries from cancer who have attended Dr. Chopra’s healing clinic which uses western medicine, neuroscience, physics, and eastern medicine(Ayurveda). Blending together many different modalities seems to be the answer. There is no one size fits all healing technique that works for everyone. Different things work for different people. But many things work better than traditional western medicine.

“Basically, I want to get your body into a deep, deep, state of rest.”

“…they all aimed at bringing her day-to-day existence to a settled, restful state, building a foundation for healing.”

“…just before the cure appears, almost every patient experiences a dramatic shift in awareness…this leap in consciousness seems to be the key…The word that comes to mind when a scientist thinks of such sudden changes is quantum. The word denotes a discrete jump from one level of functioning to a higher level–the quantum leap.”

In the modern world, we are stressed out. It is almost impossible for your body to heal when it is in a constant state of stress. “…if one wants to restore the body’s own healing ability, everything should be done to bring it back into balance.” We were not designed to live under such stress. We were not designed to live in the modern world. The modern world was not built for us. Who was it built for is my question?

Since this book was written there have been countless studies that show the mind can access the switches to our genes. Epigenetics is how are genes are turned on and off. And beliefs dictate epigenetics. But you can also heal by using meditation and visualization and countless other techniques.

“…your chief aim every day should be to maximize positive input and minimize negative input…caring for yourself today is exactly what determines your life for decades to come.”

“My body is metabolizing everything I see, hear, smell, and touch and turning it into me…”

If you haven’t seen the movie, “What the Bleep Do We Know” I would highly recommend it. It is hard to imagine how physics plays into who we are. And how we are us. The world is apart of us and we are apart of the world. But it is hard to feel that sometimes. Sometimes it feels like the world is against us. Believe me I am all too familiar with this feeling. But you just have to do something to feel better in a healthy manner.

Your body is like a machine. But the universe is a bigger machine and you are apart of it. Not everything we experience is material, Newtonian. Not everything we experience can be explained with our conscious mind or with words. Some things we just feel and some things we just know. We don’t know how we know these things. We just know. And believe me people will always try to tell you that you are wrong when you can’t explain something you know. But not everything needs to be explained. Those who know, get it.

Deepak Chopra talks a lot about the invisible fields of intelligence that we have access to and that surround us. Which sounds very new-age. But this book was written in the 1980s. And Einstein talked a lot about the precision of the world and how it is intelligent.

“Einstein…has testified to moments when “one feels free from one’s own identification with human limitations”…”

“When something seems to change in the world, the rishis said, it is really you that is changing.”

“…subjective reality and objective reality are tightly bound together. When the mind shifts, the body cannot help but follow.”

“If we program ourselves to deteriorate, which was the rule in earlier generations, then that becomes the reality.”

I earmarked so many pages in this book, it is hard to find the quotes that justify how amazing it is. Deepak Chopra wrote a lot of books in the 1980s. And he is ahead of his time on so many levels. His book on gut bacteria, Perfect Digestion, is beyond words as well. I will try to find some more of his books. But these quantum books have just been appearing lately. I rarely actually search for a book or topic. I just wander the non-fiction section and see what I find.

“Platonists…they believed that the world of things is a shadowy projection of a vaster, invisible reality that is nonmaterial…Einstein, stood in awe at the orderliness of nature without ascribing intelligence to it.”

You are universal because you are apart of the universe. You have more power than you understand. Because we cannot put everything into words. It is your job to learn how you access these feelings and knowings the best. There is a field of intelligence that surrounds us and exists in our bodies. We may never have the words to describe it fully. But do we really need the words if we experience fully? Do we really need to explain everything we feel?

Not everything is material or Newtonian. The material is only a very small part of the universe. Religions would not be so big or popular if this was not true. We all see an explanation for the things we feel, but cannot describe with words. Maybe we seek these words in order to share these experiences. But you don’t need fancy science words to share your experience with people who are committed to understanding you and/or loving you. You can just tell them what you know or you can share the feeling with them.

I like feelings better than words. I spent years writing to try to explain the feelings I have. And I spent more years doing research to try to explain the things I just know. What I have learned is you will never be able to explain yourself or what you know to someone who is committed to misunderstanding you. No matter what you say to some people, you will never be enough. And no matter what you say it will always be the wrong thing. Some people just want to attack you because they committed to misunderstanding you. Letting go of that commitment would mean they have to seek to understand themselves more. And most people are not ready for that. Because understanding yourself is hard. If it came easy everyone would do it. Understanding yourself is about getting past your ego. And you have to calm down to do that. Most people are not willing to calm down or get out of their, let alone get to know themselves or be that person. Being you is hard in a world designed to keep you in your ego. We all feel that. But everyone wants to believe they know themselves because they want everyone to believe they are not just playing the role that was assigned to them. People are actors and actresses just playing roles. When you play the role assigned to you, you do not get to access the fields of intelligence that surround us. You may get glimpses. But to live in the intelligence of the world, you have to be a human being. Your ego is a reaction. You are not intended to be a reaction. You are a being. When you stop reacting to the environment, you learn who you really are. And you get access to more information, intelligence, and feelings than you ever imagined possible.

Have you ever taken LSD? It is like that, but less hectic and more subtle. It is something you can opt into or out of. It is really neat. I hope you all try it.
